Carl Cox Curates Vinyl Gold: A Journey Through His Legendary Collection

Carl Cox, the iconic DJ and producer, has dived deep into his vinyl treasure trove to handpick his "all-time absolute superstar" records from a staggering collection of over 150,000 vinyls. This collection, amassed with his late father, is set to be showcased in an upcoming exhibition that's as eclectic as it is personal.

Teaming up with visual artist Mark Vessey, renowned for his vibrant tributes to contemporary pop and dance music culture, Cox is launching a new collection titled "Carl." Set to debut on July 20 at Enter Gallery in Brighton, the exhibition will feature each carefully selected record, accompanied by heartfelt stories from Cox about their significance.

Reflecting on the selection process, Cox remarked, “Every single one of these records are not promos; I literally went to the record store and stood there, going through the music... this collection is the best of the best.”

The chosen records span a vast array of genres, including jazz, funk, reggae, acid house, hip-hop, disco, and more. The lineup boasts music from Run DMC, Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, Candi Staton, Duran Duran, Barry White, LL Cool J, and many others, forming an eclectic mix that highlights Cox's profound understanding of music, which he proudly calls his "superpower."

Describing the emotional journey of curating the collection, Carl said, “Each record I choose has a story behind it, and it was very emotional choosing the records that helped shape my journey.”

He added, "Watching Mark work really makes me understand how you can look deeper into art, and it makes me realize what a privilege and responsibility I have when sharing my love of music with the dancefloor.”

Prepare for a sonic and visual feast as Carl Cox invites us to explore his vinyl vault and the stories that shaped a legend. This isn't just a collection; it's a celebration of a lifetime in music.
