Selena Gomez Snags Her First Emmy Nomination for "Only Murders in the Building"

Fans are buzzing with excitement as Selena Gomez has landed her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role in the latest season of 'Only Murders in the Building'. While she had previously snagged nods as an executive producer for the show, this marks her debut in the acting category.

Gomez is in good company, going head-to-head with the likes of Quinta Brunson from 'Abbott Elementary', Ayo Edebiri from 'The Bear', Maya Rudolph from 'Loot', Jean Smart from 'Hacks', and Kristen Wiig from 'Palm Royale'.

Leading the pack with the most nominations this year is FX's 'Sh?gun', racking up a whopping 25 nods. Hot on its heels are 'The Bear' with 23, 'Only Murders in the Building' with 21, 'True Detective: Night Country' with 19, and 'The Crown' rounding out the top five with 18.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, celebrating the cream of the crop in American TV from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, will be held on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast on ABC. Still no word on who will host the shindig, but we're sure it’ll be a night to remember.

Selena herself couldn’t contain her excitement, sharing on Instagram Stories: “I’m honored and insanely grateful for this. Thank you for giving me Mabel,” referring to her quirky and lovable character in the series.

Joining Selena in the nominee spotlight are her co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, both also up for awards. The trio’s on-screen chemistry, combined with their hilarious amateur sleuthing antics, has made 'Only Murders in the Building' a fan favorite.

Reactions online have been pouring in, with many fans calling the nomination “long overdue” and “well deserved”. It’s clear the love for Selena and her portrayal of Mabel is universal.

The nominees were revealed at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre by Tony Hale (of 'Veep' fame) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (from 'Abbott Elementary').

The 2023 Emmys, which took place earlier this year after a delay due to Hollywood strikes, saw 'The Bear' and 'Succession' as the night’s big winners. 'The Bear' snagged Outstanding Comedy Series, while 'Succession' took home Outstanding Drama Series. In total, 'The Bear' bagged six awards and 'Succession' seven.

Other standout shows of 2024 like 'Baby Reindeer', 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', and 'Fallout' also made their mark among the nominees.

In other Emmy-related news, Lady Gaga fans are up in arms over what they see as a major snub. Despite high hopes for a nomination for her TV special 'Gaga Chromatica Ball', it received none. Directed and produced by Gaga, the special captured her electrifying performance at Dodger Stadium in LA, part of her tour for the album 'Chromatica'.
