Hold onto your festival hats, music lovers! Kevin Parker, the mastermind behind Tame Impala, has just announced a surprise DJ set at Glastonbury tonight.
If you were scanning the Glastonbury website and noticed the mysterious "TBA" slot between 1am and 2am on the Firmly Rooted Soundsystem stage, the cat's out of the bag – it's Parker. The program reveals him as the “Antipodean psychedelic rock icon” ready to take the decks. Parker himself confirmed the buzz on Tame Impala’s official Instagram: “GLASTONBURY, come see me tonight at the Firmly Rooted sound system in Silver Hayes at 1am. DJ set. Should be pretty funnnnn.”
Known for his transformative live performances with Tame Impala, Parker is no stranger to Glastonbury, having headlined The Other Stage in 2019. While Tame Impala isn’t on the bill this year, Parker’s DJ set is sure to be a delight for fans craving those psychedelic vibes.
Adding fuel to the festival fire, there’s speculation that Parker might make a cameo during Dua Lipa’s headlining set on the Pyramid Stage. The rumor mill is churning because Parker co-wrote and co-produced Lipa’s latest album, ‘Radical Optimism,’ which dropped in May. Upon its release, Parker sang Lipa’s praises on Instagram, calling her an “absolute weapon” and expressing his pride in their collaboration: “Don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of something I’ve worked on on release day.”
Meanwhile, Parker last month sold his entire music catalogue to Sony Music Publishing. He signed a global deal with Sony in 2020, giving them control of future releases from both Parker himself and Tame Impala. However, it’s thought that the new deal encompasses past releases too.
