Spice Up Glastonbury? Mel C Dreams Big for a Headline Slot

Mel C, the indomitable Sporty Spice, dropped a tantalizing hint on the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning, live from the hallowed grounds of Worthy Farm. With the echoes of past festivals still resonating, Mel C unveiled her ultimate dream: headlining Glastonbury with the Spice Girls.

Sporty Spice didn't just tease us with her solo ambitions, though. "Well, it would be quite nice to do it on my own, wouldn’t it?” she mused, before adding a tantalizing teaser, “I might have some new music out. Well, I will have some new music out next year.” For a woman who's DJ’ed and rocked the Avalon Stage with her band, the leap to the Pyramid Stage feels like a natural next step.

But it’s the reunion talk that has fans buzzing. “I think the absolute ultimate would be to do it with the Spice Girls,” she confessed, adding wistfully, “there’s nothing I would like more. But you know, while they’re still making their minds up…” The 90s might not have been kind to pop at festivals, but times have changed, and Mel C is ready to bring Girl Power to the legendary stage.

Rumors of a Spice Girls appearance at Glastonbury 2023 swirled after Mel B hinted at it on The Big Narstie Show, but logistics got in the way, and fans were left with only dreams. However, Mel C did make a surprise appearance with Orbital and Tilda Swinton, performing the aptly named track "Spicy", which cleverly samples Spice Girls hits, including the iconic "Wannabe".

The last time we saw the Spice Girls perform was an unexpected delight at Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday bash in April, where they belted out their 1998 single ‘Stop’. The impromptu reunion sparked rumors of a full-fledged comeback, but David Beckham quickly quashed those hopes. “Unfortunately, that’s not happening,” he said, acknowledging the girls' busy individual schedules.

Yet, as Glastonbury looks ahead, Emily Eavis has already confirmed a fallow year in 2026 and hinted at big plans for 2025. Could the stars finally align for a Spice Girls headline slot? Only time will tell. For now, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed and our platform shoes ready.
