1952 - Pop singer Laura Branigan, known for hits like "Gloria" and "Self Control," is born and raised in Armonk, New York.

1960 - Vince Clarke, keyboardist for Erasure, is born Vincent John Martin in South Woodford, England. An early member of Depeche Mode, he writes the group's breakthrough hit, "Just Can't Get Enough."

1969 - Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones is found dead in his swimming pool.
1971 - Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, is found dead at age 27 in a Paris apartment bathtub. Although drugs are suspected, no autopsy is performed. The official cause of death is listed as a "heart attack induced by respiratory problems."

1973 - At the Hammersmith Odeon in London, David Bowie makes a shocking announcement during his performance as Ziggy Stardust, stating: "Not only is this the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do." This marks the end of his iconic Ziggy Stardust persona.
1975 - Labelle makes history as the first Black vocal group to grace the cover of Rolling Stone.

1976 - In a landmark moment, Brian Wilson joins The Beach Boys onstage in Anaheim, California, marking his first appearance with the band in 12 years.
