TopHit Names Radio Stars and Top International Hits of Early 2024

TopHit.com has dropped the music deets for the first 6 months of 2024, and boy, do radio listeners and internet users have different tastes! Let’s kick things off with the radio airplay.

TopHit.com has summarized the musical results of the first six months of 2024. The picture on the airwaves and online is traditionally radically different. Let's start with the radio.

In the Global radio airwaves this year, there are two undisputed leaders — Dua Lipa and David Guetta, each garnering more than 4 million airplays in the first half of the year. The closest competitors to these megastars are Scottish hitmaker Calvin Harris and American pop diva Ava Max. However, the gap from the second place is quite significant! Lipa and Guetta's leadership is unlikely to be challenged by the end of 2024; they are the absolute kings of the airwaves.

David Guetta is a chart legend. According to TopHit, Guetta has been the most successful international radio airplay artist for several decades. The French DJ and producer has over 48 million airplays. He is the main record holder for radio rotations, and we congratulate him on that. Dua Lipa also has every chance to become not only the most successful artist of this year but also of the decade, with her hits being played on the radio more than 28 million times.

When it comes to the sheer presence of artists on the airwaves, David Guetta is crushing it. The producer and DJ has 7 tracks in the Global radio chart, two of which are in the top 40When We Were Young (The Logical Song) and I Don't Wanna Wait, hot collaborations with Kim Petras and OneRepublic. Slightly behind are Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris, Purple Disco Machine, Tiesto, and Robin Schulz — each with 6 radio hits.

Here we have a surprise. American performer Teddy Swims, who grew up in a pastor's family and listened to a lot of classic soul in his childhood, managed to outdo many renowned competitors. According to the rotation results for the first six months of 2024, his track Lose Control became the best, gathering 1,408,146 airplays. In total, this hit has aired just under 2 million times since its release!

But, there are some twists. The track was released last summer and is gradually being phased out of playlists. Meanwhile, two mega-hits have emerged in 2024, contending for the year's top spot: Beautiful Things by Benson Boone and Whatever by Kygo & Ava Max. Both bangers have won over millions of radio listeners and are the only songs from 2024 in the top 10.

Potentially, they could be challenged by Training Season, an excellent track by Dua Lipa, the spectacular collaboration Lovers In A Past Life by Calvin Harris & Rag'n'Bone Man, or new tracks by Justin Timberlake, Jack Harlow, and of course, Purple Disco Machine. By the way, Purple Disco Machine has been consistently delivering, with almost every new single by the German producer becoming a sure-fire radio hit. So far, his highest position in 2024 is 18th place with the wonderful dance-pop track Beat Of Your Heart.

Don’t forget, the TopHit Spy Telegram bot tracks airplay in real-time and sends users daily reports on track rotation, including the exact time each radio station plays the track.
